ETHICS:
- Nearly 3,500 people die on the world's roads every day. Tens of millions of people are injured or disabled caused by traffic accidents every year.
- A 5% increase in average speed leads to a 10% increase in crashes that cause injuries and a 20% increase in fatal crashes. Moreover an increase in avergae speed also results in a higher ratio of more severe injuries in case of an accident
ENVIRONMENT:
- 14% of the anthropogenic CO2 emissions are caused by road traffic, however up to 50% of that could be avoided by use of intelligent traffic management and ubiquitous traffic enforcement.
- Harmonizing the traffic flow not only reduces the number of acceleration processes
ECONOMICS:
- Road crashes cost approximately 1 to 3 percent of a country's annual Gross National Product (GNP).
- Traffic law enforcement is the fairest method to shift compensation of cost for surveillance infrastructure and follow up cost of accidents to the potential causers.
- Traffic law enforcement is the only self-refunding investment in road traffic infrastructure within astounding short ROI cycles.
... considering the above mentioned, one should see expenditure on road safety as an investment and not as a cost… (WorldBank)
